¹⁷ Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

²³ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

²³ for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

⁸ If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. ⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. ¹⁰ If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

²⁰ He went on: "What comes out of a man is what makes him 'unclean.' ²¹ For from within, out of men's hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, ²² greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. ²³ All these evils come from inside and make a man 'unclean.'"

¹³ No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

⁵ Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

⁴ Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.

¹⁹ The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; ²⁰ idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions ²¹ and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

⁷ Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

¹⁶ So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

¹⁷ All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

Have nothing to do with them.

³⁴ Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

⁶ No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him. ⁷ Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. ⁸ He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. ⁹ No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. ¹⁰ This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
