20 Bible Verses About Finding A Mate (NIV)

⁶ Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

¹⁸ The LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him."

²² He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.

⁷ "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

³ It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; ⁴ that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, ⁵ not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God;

²⁴ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh.

³ Some Pharisees came to him to test him. They asked, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any and every reason?" ⁴ "Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female,' ⁵ and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? ⁶ So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." ⁷ "Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" ⁸ Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. ⁹ I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."

³² For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

¹¹ For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.

²⁷ Are you married? Do not seek a divorce. Are you unmarried? Do not look for a wife. ²⁸ But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this. ²⁹ What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they had none; ³⁰ those who mourn, as if they did not; those who are happy, as if they were not; those who buy something, as if it were not theirs to keep; ³¹ those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away. ³² I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord's affairs--how he can please the Lord. ³³ But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world--how he can please his wife-- ³⁴ and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world--how she can please her husband. ³⁵ I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord. ³⁶ If anyone thinks he is acting improperly toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if she is getting along in years and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married. ³⁷ But the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin--this man also does the right thing. ³⁸ So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does even better. ³⁹ A woman is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to marry anyone she wishes, but he must belong to the Lord. ⁴⁰ In my judgment, she is happier if she stays as she is--and I think that I too have the Spirit of God.

Did not the same one form us both within our mothers? ¹⁶ "If I have denied the desires of the poor or let the eyes of the widow grow weary, ¹⁷ if I have kept my bread to myself, not sharing it with the fatherless- ¹⁸ but from my youth I reared him as would a father, and from my birth I guided the widow- ¹⁹ if I have seen anyone perishing for lack of clothing, or a needy man without a garment, ²⁰ and his heart did not bless me for warming him with the fleece from my sheep, ²¹ if I have raised my hand against the fatherless, knowing that I had influence in court, ²² then let my arm fall from the shoulder, let it be broken off at the joint. ²³ For I dreaded destruction from God, and for fear of his splendor I could not do such things. ²⁴ "If I have put my trust in gold or said to pure gold, 'You are my security,' ²⁵ if I have rejoiced over my great wealth, the fortune my hands had gained, ²⁶ if I have regarded the sun in its radiance or the moon moving in splendor, ²⁷ so that my heart was secretly enticed and my hand offered them a kiss of homage, ²⁸ then these also would be sins to be judged, for I would have been unfaithful to God on high. ²⁹ "If I have rejoiced at my enemy's misfortune or gloated over the trouble that came to him- ³⁰ I have not allowed my mouth to sin by invoking a curse against his life- ³¹ if the men of my household have never said, 'Who has not had his fill of Job's meat?'- ³² but no stranger had to spend the night in the street, for my door was always open to the traveler- ³³ if I have concealed my sin as men do, by hiding my guilt in my heart ³⁴ because I so feared the crowd and so dreaded the contempt of the clans that I kept silent and would not go outside ³⁵ ("Oh, that I had someone to hear me! I sign now my defense-let the Almighty answer me; let my accuser put his indictment in writing. ³⁶ Surely I would wear it on my shoulder, I would put it on like a crown. ³⁷ I would give him an account of my every step; like a prince I would approach him.)- ³⁸ "if my land cries out against me and all its furrows are wet with tears, ³⁹ if I have devoured its yield without payment or broken the spirit of its tenants, ⁴⁰ then let briers come up instead of wheat and weeds instead of barley." The words of Job are ended.

⁴ Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

²⁷ To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.

²⁴ Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

¹ Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. ² Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" ³ "What did Moses command you?" he replied. ⁴ They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." ⁵ "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. ⁶ "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' ⁷ 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, ⁸ and the two will become one flesh.' So they are no longer two, but one. ⁹ Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." ¹⁰ When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. ¹¹ He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.

¹⁵ The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge; the ears of the wise seek it out. ¹⁶ A gift opens the way for the giver and ushers him into the presence of the great. ¹⁷ The first to present his case seems right, till another comes forward and questions him. ¹⁸ Casting the lot settles disputes and keeps strong opponents apart. ¹⁹ An offended brother is more unyielding than a fortified city, and disputes are like the barred gates of a citadel.

¹⁶ Look in the scroll of the LORD and read: None of these will be missing, not one will lack her mate. For it is his mouth that has given the order, and his Spirit will gather them together.
