²⁴ A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

¹⁷ A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

¹⁶ But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. ¹⁷ Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. ⁹ Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands.

² Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.

⁶ Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?

⁸ They would not be like their forefathers- a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.
