25 Bible Verses About Humbleness (NIV)

¹² For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

¹⁹ My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, ²⁰ for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

² Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

⁶ Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

⁸ But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.

² to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.

²⁹ Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

⁸ For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--

⁴ Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

⁹ If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Then, humiliated, you will have to take the least important place. ¹⁰ But when you are invited, take the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he will say to you, 'Friend, move up to a better place.' Then you will be honored in the presence of all your fellow guests. ¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." ¹² Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. ¹³ But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, ¹⁴ and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

¹⁷ Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you.

⁶ But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

²² Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

² Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

¹⁴ if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
