Is God or Jesus the Creator?

ReformedWiki Post

Some argue that the Bible is contradictory concerning who is the creator. The argument is that Isaiah 44:24 says that God is the creator, but John 1:3 and Colossians 1:16-17 say that Jesus is the creator. However, the answer to this alleged contradiction in the Bible is extremely simple.

Scriptures – Is God or Jesus the Creator?

God Is the Creator

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: “I am the Lord, who made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself,

Isaiah 44:24

Jesus Is the Creator

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:3

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:16-17

The Answer – Is God or Jesus the Creator?

The Persons of the Trinity Share the Act of Creation

The solution to this alleged contradiction is that God is a Trinity, which means that God is one in being and three in person. The persons of the Trinity are distinct in that different persons are emphasized concerning particular actions of God, but, in a sense, all three persons share in the actions of God.

So, it can be said that both the Father and the Son are creators—they both share in the act of creation. This is why there is no contradiction between Isaiah 44:24, John 1:3, and Colossians 1:16-17.
